NSF REU Biological Discovery in Woods Hole

The NSF REU Biological Discovery in Woods Hole (BDWH) Program is designed as an intensive, 10-week experience for undergraduates at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The major portion of each student’s time will be dedicated to an individual research project under the direction of one of the participating mentors.

NSF REU – Plum Island LTER

The Marine Biological Laboratory is seeking applicants for two 10-week positions in the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The successful applicants will work as part of a large-scale, multi-disciplinary project examining the effects of sea-level, climate change, and changes in human land use of the marshes, estuaries and watersheds surrounding Plum Island Sound, MA.

NSF REU – Beaufort Lagoon Ecosystems LTER

Dr. Jim McClelland invites applicants for a 10-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) position with the Beaufort Lagoon Ecosystems Long Term Ecological Research (BLE-LTER) program. One applicant will be selected to work with Dr. McClelland and associates of the BLE LTER on questions about what controls the function of Arctic coastal ecosystems and how they are responding to climate-linked changes. The successful applicant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team at field sites along Alaska’s northernmost coastline and spend time at the MBL Ecosystems Center.

REU – Oceanic Flux Program

The Marine Biological Laboratory is seeking applicants for a 10-week position in the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The successful applicant will participate in studies of carbon cycle processes in ocean ecosystems, particularly deep particle flux materials collected in the Oceanic Flux Program (OFP) deep ocean sediment traps in the Sargasso Sea.

Ecosystems Center Paid Internship

The MBL Ecosystems Center is seeking an intern who can commit to work 11 weeks during the period June 5-August 26, 2022 on water quality issues in coastal ponds and estuaries.  The intern will assist with research on response of a pond to nutrient mitigation and remediation resulting from wastewater diversion.

Marine Aquarist and Research Internship

The Automated Aquatic Facility (AAF) at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole is hosting one internship position during the summer of 2024. The AAF is a new initiative to generate novel marine model and freshwater model organisms to establish a resource network with MBL at its center. Interns will learn how to maintain novel aquatic systems and the husbandry of a variety of invertebrate species. Interns will also have the opportunity to complete an independent research project under the supervision of AAF staff.  Additional activities may include outreach, electronics design and fabrication, graphic design, and coding.
