MBL Career Development Program Launches Second Year

WOODS HOLE, MA—The MBL will launch its second year of SUCCESS, a career development program for young scientists, on June 18, 2014.

Chaired by MBL Director of Education Bill Reznikoff, SUCCESS (which stands for Shaping and Understanding Career Choices in Education, Science, and Self) is a series of seven weekly lunchtime workshops led by panels of scientists from institutions across the U.S.

Programs will address everything from how to choose a career, to honing presentation skills, to obtaining funding, to finding appropriate mentors. A question and answer period will follow each presentation.

“The inaugural 2013 SUCCESS program definitely lived up to its name, thanks in large part to the huge creative effort by committee members Barbara Jones and Kristine Johnson, and the many participating faculty,” said Reznikoff. “In light of this accomplishment, there was unanimous support by everyone involved for presenting a second season of SUCCESS in 2014. We are looking forward to once again sharing the expertise of the MBL research community with our young scientists.”

The program will run from June 18 through July 30 in the Meigs Room, located in the MBL’s Swope Conference Center. There is no charge for the series and lunch will be provided. Invitations will be sent weekly to the MBL community via e-mail. Reservations are required.

The SUCCESS committee includes Paloma Gonzales-Bellido, Ona Bloom, Jonathan Gitlin, Roger Hanlon, Anne Hart, Barbara Jones, Kristine Johnson, Dave Johnston, Jen Morgan, Joel Smith, Meg Tivey, Ann Stuart, and Steve Zottoli.
