D.1.8 Display, Hoisting, and Lowering the American and/or MBL Flags

1.0 Policy Statement:
The American and MBL Flags are to be displayed at Swope Center each day that the weather and conditions allow. Unless notified by the Director’s Office to the contrary, flag ethics are to be those published in the United States Flag Code.

2.0 MBL Exceptions:
Any and all exceptions shall be approved by the Director’s Office. Any and all exceptions, such as half mast displays, shall be communicated from the Director’s Office directly to Plant Operations and Maintenance for implementation. The Director’s Office will determine the appropriate length of time for half mast displays, etc.

• 2.1 The MBL flag will be lowered at half-mast for the appropriate period of time whenever a member of the MBL Society or a Trustee passes away.
• 2.2 The MBL flag will be lowered at half-mast for the appropriate period of time when a current staff member or long term former employee passes away.
