Ralph Mitchell

The MBL notes with sadness the passing of Ralph Mitchell, 90, MBL Society Member Emeritus, on April 7, 2025. A pioneer of environmental microbiology, Mitchell was the Gordon MacKay Professor of Applied Biology, Emeritus at Harvard University. He spent nearly every summer in Woods Hole since 1967, where he had a lab and was active on the faculty of the MBL Marine Ecology course (now Microbial Diversity) from 1971-1973.
