Daniel Madison
With sadness, the MBL notes the passing of Daniel Madison, 69, professor of molecular and cellular physiology at Stanford University, on October 9, 2025.
Madison served for many years on the MBL Neurobiology course faculty and co-directed the course from 1995 to 1999. He also directed an MBL course called Neurobiology of Brain Dysfunction in 2011.
A neuroscientist and expert electrophysiologist, Madison’s research focused on how synapses – the connections between neurons – grow and change in response to activity, a process known as synaptic plasticity. He was an expert on the hippocampus, an area of the brain essential for learning and memory.
