Elijah Wald brings Dylan, Seeger, and Hollywood to Woods Hole Film Festival | WCVB5 Chronicle

Elijah Wald grew up in Woods Hole, as he relates in this "Chronicle" segment, as the son of Nobel Laureate and former MBL Trustee George Wald and Ruth Hubbard, MBL investigators from Harvard University for nearly 70 years. Elijah returned to the village last summer to speak at the Woods Hole Film Festival about his book, "Dylan Goes Electric!" upon which the Bob Dylan biopic, "A Complete Unknown," was based.
FALMOUTH, Mass. — Woods Hole Film Festival is the oldest film festival in Massachusetts. Founded in 1991, it has grown into an eight-day feast of independent film. Each year, the festival screens anywhere from 115 to 150 films selected from nearly 1,000 submissions from around New England and the world. Each year, festival organizers strive to put together a program that represents the best in emerging independent film — from feature-length documentaries to narratives and short films. In addition, they host panel discussions, workshops, and masterclasses to support filmmakers and build bridges between creative professionals and local audiences.
Elijah Wald is a Grammy Award–winning musician, writer, and cultural historian whose work explores the intersections of music, history, and social change. He is the author of numerous acclaimed books, including “Dylan Goes Electric!”, which reexamines Bob Dylan’s groundbreaking 1965 Newport Folk Festival performance and its lasting impact on American music and culture. Wald participated in a panel discussion during the 2025 installment of the Woods Hole Film Festival.
