Cape Symphony Conductor Discusses Future of the Arts at MBL Falmouth Forum, November 6

WOODS HOLE, MA—Cape Symphony artistic director and conductor Jung-Ho Pak will offer a rare and frank discussion about the uncertain future of the arts at the next MBL Falmouth Forum on Friday, November 6 at 7:30 PM in the MBL’s Lillie Auditorium, 7 MBL Street, Woods Hole.

In the presentation, titled “Symphony Confidential: A Revolutionary Approach to Classical Music,” Maestro Pak will explain his radical business approach to making great music accessible to every single person, and how it is inspired by modern management techniques and corporate models. Presented by the MBL Associates, and sponsored by the Herman T. Epstein Endowed Memorial Lectureship, the event is free and open to the public.

Pak has been Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra since 2007. Pak has been director of orchestras and music director of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of the largest and oldest music festivals in the country, since 2003. Formerly music director of the San Diego Symphony, he helped guide the orchestra's emergence from bankruptcy to financial success.

Pak has been music director with the University of Southern California, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Colburn School of Music, University of California, Berkeley, International Chamber Orchestra, and Diablo Ballet. He was also principal conductor of the Emmy-nominated Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra for eight years, broadcasting on the Disney Channel to over 30 million viewers worldwide.

Pak has conducted in Europe, Soviet Union, South America and Asia and is a frequent speaker on television and radio about the relevance of art in society and the importance of music education, and clinician and guest conductor at national music festivals.

Pak credits his public school band program with influencing him to become a professional musician and has fueled his commitment to our education programs including Cape Symphony’s Music Works! Everyday, Music Memory, and the Cape Youth Orchestra among others. He admits that one of his most “audacious” goals is to reach every single person on Cape Cod with the gift of beautiful music.

The annual Epstein Endowed Memorial Lecture is held in honor of Dr. Herman T. Epstein, a founding member of the MBL Falmouth Forum whose research explored the subjects of mind, brain, education, and learning. The Epstein Endowed Memorial Lecture is sponsored by the Herman T. Epstein Endowment whose goal is to support a fine arts presentation during each Falmouth Forum season.

An optional buffet dinner will precede the lecture at 6:00 pm at the MBL’s Swope Center, 5 North Street, Woods Hole. Tickets are $30 (meal includes salad, pasta or potatoes, two entrees, wine, dessert, tax and gratuity) and must be purchased in advance at Eight Cousins Bookstore, Main Street, Falmouth or at the MBL Communications Office, 127 Water Street, Woods Hole.
